This evening a resident called to report the discovery of a military munition on their property. The Petersham Police Department, Petersham Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire & Explosion Investigetion Unit coordinated the safe removal of the item, which was determined to not have a live charge inside of it.
Tonight’s incident is a great example of how to handle such events: If you discover an item that you question may be dangerous, please leave it in place, do not handle or move the object, notify the Petersham Police Department (978) 724-3232, and the proper departments and assets will be requested to safely handle the situation.
