The Petersham Police Department is saddened to share that Retired Deputy Chief Richard “Dick” Bartus #22-2 has passed away.
Deputy Chief Bartus was a pillar of the department serving from 1973 through 2002.
As a new part-time patrolman I spent my first patrol shift in Petersham with Deputy Bartus, and in turn he and I patrolled together for his last shift serving the community.
Members of the Petersham Police Department will be wearing a mourning band over our chest badges for one week to honor Deputy Chief Bartus.
Pictured with Deputy Chief Bartus in his dress blues on Memorial Day are three of his grandsons, Josh, “Grump” Kyle and Tyler.
A celebration of life will be held in October, at which time the Petersham Police Department will join Dick’s family in sharing stories and memories.
